A "Welcoming" Bit of History Revealed
in Downtown Minneapolis

For 44 years a building that once housed the old Leamington Motor Inn shared a zero-lot line with a portion of the Parish House at Gethsemane Church in downtown Minneapolis.  The recent demolition of that building revealed a surprise:   a large welcome sign painted on the south wall of the Parish House.  As Vicar Aron Kramer put it:  "a simple welcome by Gethsemane to all who enter the City."  Parish records are now being searched to determine just when the sign was painted.

The Leamington Motor Inn has not operated in the building for many years.  The Minneapolis Downtown Journal reports that perhaps the most-famous guests at the old hotel were The Beatles, who stayed there in the 60's, following a concert at the old Met Center.
