Death of the Rev. Perry Gilfillan


Bishop James Jelinek is saddened to announce the death of the Rev. Perry Gilfillan, who died December 27, 2007. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, MN with Fr. Nick Mezacapa officiating.

Rest eternal grant to Perry, O Lord;
And let light perpetual shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.



Obituary

The Rev. Perry Gilfillan, 98, of Plainview, MN died Thursday morning, Dec. 27, 2007 at St. Isidore Health Center of Greenwood Prairie in Plainview, MN.

Perry McMasters Gilfillan was born Aug. 31, 1909 in St. Paul, MN to P.K. and Louise Gilfillan. He graduated from Harvard and Seabury Western Theological Seminary. On Nov. 23, 1940 he married Barbara Pendleton in Lawrence, KS. Rev. Gilfillan served the following Episcopal Parishes; St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Detroit, MI and St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Cedar Falls, IA. He then was Head Chaplain at Metropolitan Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN for 30 plus years. They moved to Plainview, MN in 2005. He was a member of the Sierra Club and Audubon Society. He traveled to England, New Zealand, and the Caribbean, enjoyed camping and canoeing in the Boundary Waters, and cross-country skiing.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gilfillan of Plainview, MN; two sons, Bruce (Val) Gilfillan of Rollingstone, MN and David (Sue) Gilfillan of Philadelphia, PA; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, in Plainview, MN.
