"Compassion Is Always In Fashion," the annual Gala Fundraiser of Episcopal Community services, raised thousands of dollars to help youth at risk and families in need across the state of Minnesota. 
The Annual Pasty Sale at Christ Church, Grand Rapids, is sponsored by the Men’s Group, but it's also a celebrated parish event that raises money for many worthy causes. 
Guests gathered at three Bishop's Circle Banquets last week: Rochester, Minneapolis, and Duluth. And, with the help of a few gifts from people who could not attend, they raised over $40,000 to support innovative programs in campus ministry, faith formation, and ethnic ministry in 2008. 
The Bishop tells of his recent visit with the congregation of Emmanuel Church, following the region's devastating August flooding, and issues a new appeal. 
Churches around the diocese held services of animal blessings,
in honor of St. Francis, whose feast day is October 4. 
Forty people from seven states and at least three denominations attended the first-ever national Beijing Circle conference at St. James, Minneapolis. 
Diocesan Convention will be asked to endorse the final report from the Bishop's Commission on Mission Strategy, as "the blueprint for our diocesan future." 
The Executive Director of the Sheltering Arms Foundation is one of 40 individuals selected for this year's program at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. 
Over the past two years, Father Bill Bulson, the priest at Holy Apostles, has baptized 150 new Hmong Christians, the Sunday School has grown tenfold, there are 20 teenagers preparing for confirmation, and the church is bursting at the seams! Now everyone can become part of the amazing Holy Apostles story. 
The 150th annual Diocesan Convention elected a number of people to diocesan organizations, selected its deputation for the 2009 General Convention, affirmed the report of the Bishop's Commission on Mission Strategy, approved the 2008 diocesan budget and two resolutions, and defeated both a proposed canonical change and the call for the election of a bishop coadjutor. 
The final report of the Bishop's Commission on Mission Strategy was overwhelmingly affirmed at Diocesan Convention, and its spirit seemed to mark a great deal of the convention business which followed. 
The Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota officially opened its Sesquicentennial Year in grand style as nearly 800 persons packed the Grand Ballroom at the St. Paul RiverCentre on Friday, October 26, at the start of the 150th Annual Convention. It was, as Bishop James Jelinek said, a celebration of "a remarkable legacy of love: 150 years of service to the world in the name of Christ." A presentation by Garrison Keillor was the highlight of the event. 
Members and friends of the Minnesota Episcopal Environmental Stewardship Commission discussed the evening's program as well as topics pertaining to the environment as they met for the third annual "Pints to the Environment" gathering following the Convention Banquet. 
Hallowe'en came a few days early at the Episcopal Church Homes on Monday night, October 29, with a visit from children and youth from St. Clement's, St. Paul. 
In learning about the Millennium Development Goals, the J2A (Journey to Adulthood) group at St. Clement's in St. Paul created a cross with 1500 "found" objects to represent the 1500 children who die in the world each hour from starvation and preventable diseases. The cross will "travel" to 24 Twin Cities locations.

The trip is sponsored by St. Mark's Cathedral and includes team members from three additional parishes. 
More than 140 members, "alumni," and friends of St. Paul's on-the-Hill, St. Paul, gathered on All Souls' Day, November 2, at the James J. Hill House in St. Paul for a dinner and program to celebrate the congregation's first 150 years of mission and ministry. 
Sheltering Arms' 2007 Children's Leadership Award was presented to four women leaders from the foundation's first board. As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, the foundation has also announced a special one-time "grant round" to Minnesota Episcopal congregations. 
The Rev. Peg Chemberlin will become President of National Council of Churches (USA) in November 2009, and will continue to serve as executive director of the Minnesota Council of Churches.

Bishop James Jelinek is saddened to announce the December 2 death of the Rev. Verna Graves, local priest at St. John in the Wilderness, Red Lake; and St. Antipas, Redby. 
This traditional festival drew hundreds to La Mision el Santo Nino Jesus in St. Paul, and served as the congregation's annual outreach to the Mexican community in the Twin Cities area. 
She has resigned as of the end of January to become Vicar of El Santo Nino Jesus in St. Paul. Funds budgeted for the vacated Canon Missioner position will be used to support ethnic ministry in the diocese. 
Georgia Hecock and Walter Tollefson were ordained on December 8 as transitional deacons to serve with the Total Ministry team for St. Luke's, Detroit Lakes. 
Members of the Millennium Development Goals Task Force reported to Diocesan Council on the disbursement in 2007 of $23,080 in grants for congregational programs as well as direct donations to international agencies to help eradicate extreme world poverty. 
Representatives from the Episcopal Ecological Network (EpEN) met recently in Chicago for a ministry review and strategic planning retreat. Minnesotans Wanda Copeland and Chuck Morello are part of the network's leadership team. 
St. John's, Mankato, has chosen the recipients of its 0.7% MDG commitment for 2007, and is already making plans for 2008. 
This December service made use of historic treasures and newer gifts as it welcomed a new Christian to the church. 
John Jankowski, Winifred Mitchell, David Langille, and Letha Wilson-Barnard were ordained to the priesthood on December 20, 2007.
