Holy Apostles church picnic is a huge success!

Hot dogs, three-legged races, volley ball, children batting at a piñata, and Holy Eucharist on a picnic table were all a part of the church picnic of Holy Apostles, St. Paul, held Sunday, July 29, at St. Croix Bluff Regional Park.
Fr. Bill Bulson celebrated Holy Eucharist at 10 am on the lawn in front of the park pavilion. Accordion music played by music director Sergey Khvoshchinsky accompanied the Hmong and English hymn singing. Afterward, nearly 200 people shared a potluck and BBQ feast.
During the warm, lazy afternoon, many adults found shady spots on the grass for their picnic blankets, grandmothers watched their grandbabies nap, and young adults played volleyball and softball and organized games for the younger children – including potato-sack races and ring toss. Five teenaged boys challenged 25 children to a match of tug of war. The younger children won!
The picnic was the idea of Ker Yang, Holy Apostles’ Junior Warden. Yang said he has fond memories of church picnics as a child, growing up in Wisconsin. He wanted the children of Holy Apostles, including his two sons, ages 2 and 6, to have a positive experience as he did. The picnic was a huge success with many people pitching in to make it possible.
Hopefully this is the start of an annual tradition at Holy Apostles!
