Honors Groups and Individuals

named "Church of the Year

Staff Report

It has been a good year for the many people served by Episcopal Community Services (ECS), and a group of volunteers, employees, and friends learned all about it at the ECS Annual Meeting, held at St. Mark’s Cathedral on Thursday, March 29.

Accepting the "Church of the Year Award" for its support of Episcopal Community Services were representatives of St. John the Evangelist, St. Paul:  (from left) Rector Frank Wilson (at podium), Mary Frances Palmer, Richard Lyman, and Pat Brynteson.

As is customary with ECS, this “meeting” was a thinly-disguised party, where all came together to celebrate the work of ECS during the previous year and to honor a few of the groups and individuals who had helped to make this possible. Here is a list of the honorees:

Church of the Year: St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, St. Paul
Volunteer Group of the Year: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Maplewood
Volunteer of the Year: Betsey Lippert, Ready for Success
Employee of the Year, Residential Youth Services: Travis Malterud, Gilfillan Center
Employee of the Year:  Diana Erickson, ECS Accounting Department
Distinguished Service Award: Helen Lockhart, former ECS Board President

In addition, ECS recognized the work of retiring Board members Margaret McBride, Newell Searle, and the Rev. Lydia Huttar Brown; and welcomed new or additional-term Board members Verne Pickering, Denise Reilly, Paul Strickland, Harry Sweatt, and the Rev. Doyle Turner.
