It has been a good year for the many people served by Episcopal Community Services (ECS), and a group of volunteers, employees, and friends learned all about it at the ECS Annual Meeting, held at St. Mark's Cathedral on Thursday, March 29. 
St. Clement's Church, St. Paul, has published a new book about its history, even as it gets ready to install its first female rector. Among author Hampton Smith's findings: Amelia Earhart once sang in the choir. 
The Rev. Devon Anderson, chair of the Diocese of Minnesota's Millennium Development Goals Task Force, is among three new grant recipients from the Episcopal Church Foundation. 
Last year's convention approved a budget that includes giving 0.7% to support the Millennium Development Goals. The first of a series of quarterly donations have now been made and support the work of NetAid and Bread for the World. 
Two more congregations in the Diocese of Minnesota have committed to use 0.7% of thier budgets to support the Millennium Development Goals. Here's how St. Matthew's, St. Paul and St. James, Marshall are going to employ their gifts. 
Last year, St. John's Church, Minneapolis, painfully said goodbye to a 150-year-old tree to make way for a $1.5 million expansion. Now, a part of that tree will serve the congregation for years to come. A story from The Southwest Journal is here. 
Two young Minnesota Episcopalians, members of St. Luke's Church, Minneapolis, will participate in a swim across the English Channel this summer to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities.

Members of the Bishop Whipple Mission Bishop's Committee review their values, begin Vision Statement 
The people of St. Clement's Church, St. Paul and the Rev. Beth Royalty celebrated their new ministry together on April 28. 
On Saturday, May 5, nearly 200 lay and clergy members of the Diocese of Minnesota gathered at St. John’s Church in St. Cloud to hear the findings to date of the BCMS (the Bishop’s Commission on Mission Strategy) and, perhaps more importantly, to be part of the emerging process. 
Joe Bjordal, acting director of communication for the Diocese of Minnesota, has resigned his position for personal reasons. 
After two years as Office Coordinator at the Episcopal Center, Rachel will become the new Program Associate at St. Mary's, St. Paul. 
The Diocesan Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Task Force has awarded grants to six congregations that will aid projects supporting the MDGs in Minnesota, Haiti, Rwanda and Uganda. The Task Force is also finalizing plans for a major training conference on September 15, 2007. 
St. Nicholas, Richfield, sends half an "ark" of farm animals to a world family in need. 
The youth program at St. John's, Onigum, is flourishing, and a ministry partnership with Trinity, Excelsior, continues to bear fruit.

This Minnesota deacon joined the Peace Corps at 68, and lived and worked in Tanzania and Latvia, as well as serving in organizations, churches, and communities here at home. 
The Right Reverend Frederick W. Putnam, retired Bishop of Navajoland and Suffragan of Oklahoma, and an assisting bishop in Minnesota, died June 7. A memorial service was held June 12 at St. Stephen's Church, Edina. 
Ground was broken on Tuesday, June 5, for a new entrance and addition to this old prairie-style church building. A bonus was the discovery of a time capsule from the 1800s in one of the foundation stones. 
Items in a "Barter Sale" were paid for in good deeds to people of the town. 
Her area of learning will be Church History, and she will join a diocesan group that helps prepare persons for ordination.
