Episcopal Youth Music Camp Touches Generations

Thousands of years ago, after Moses' people crossed the Red Sea to flee the oppressive rule of the Egyptians, Miriam shook her tambourine and urged the Israelite women into a celebration of song and dance. Her song - and that of Deborah’s victory over the Philistines 400 year later - are some of the oldest fragments of the Bible, committed to memory and voice and handed down from generation to generation.

That same spirit - that of joy and music and faith handed down to the young - filled the grounds of Camp Heartland in Willow River from August 8 - 14 as the Episcopal Youth Music Camp (EYMC) celebrated fifty years of history. Read full story.

The Rev. Neysa Ellgren developed a passion for national church governance through serving as an alternate deputy to General ConvNeysa Ellgrenention in 2006. Since that time, Neysa has followed the issues facing the church at the international, national, state, and local levels and has been consistently involved in discerning new directions and programs toward fulfillment of God's mission. Neysa has been active as the Dean of Region VI of the diocese, and as past president for the MN Episcopal Clergy Association, Advisor for Holy Orders for Young Vocations, Chair of the Department of Congregational Development and serving on the diocesan Continuing Education Committee and the Episcopal Society for Ministry in Higher Education Steering Committee. "At this time in history The Episcopal Church has the opportunity to show the rest of the world ways to live in communion while holding in tension different theological perspectives," says Ellgren. "I have closely followed the issues we are facing and know that I will strongly represent our diocese at General Convention."
